Solving Design Issues

As mentioned at the end of the previous post the physical Mark 2 of Social? Highlighted a few design issues.

Although I’ve not documented a lot of the smaller details in the blog; it’s these tiny little design issues that make all the difference further down the line; probably one of my favourite quotes of this week was from our own Graham Pullin when he said “Obsession takes time”.

The last physical prototype showed that the indicators did not well….indicate all too well.

The problem is that there isnt enough light transmission through the plastic – too much was being lost, and to be honest the design was scrappy. Therefore with a little measuring and prototyping, I came up with a push-fit LED dock for the indicators

This meant that the LED’s were much more secure and better positioned for better light transmission and distribution. As you can see here; it’s like night and day… If daylight was blue.

WP_001077Seems I’m an engineer after all.
